I am a licensed psychologist working and living in Seattle. My office is located in the rich, diverse Seattle neighborhood between First Hill, Capitol Hill and the Central District.

As a Seattle psychologist practicing for more than twelve years, I specialize in working with people who experience depression, anxiety, relationship issues and eating disorders.

My Seattle practice serves teenagers (over age 16), young adults and adults, as individuals, couples and other family units. As a Seattle-based psychologist, I help people understand the themes and patterns in their lives and connections to the past so that they can live their lives more effectively in the present.

I work with a variety of issues, including:

bullet

Women’s issues – family, relationships, balance;

bullet

Trauma – abuse, assault, violence;

bullet

Eating issues – bulimia, anorexia, binge eating, compulsive overeating;

bullet

Early to middle adulthood – individuation, career and family decisions;

bullet

Identity - sexual, cultural and spiritual;

bullet

Couples-communication, intimacy and conflict.

Getting Started

Why should I seek therapy?

People seek out psychotherapy for many different reasons.  Perhaps you are experiencing a symptom that is troublesome, distressing and gets in the way of living a full and "rich" life.  Typical symptoms include feeling sad, fearful, irritable, moody, apathetic or frequently anxious.

Often people seek out therapy during a role transition such as leaving home for college, changing jobs, beginning or ending a relationship, getting married, or having a baby.  In many of these cases, people experience stress from the new role or identity.

Sometimes people seek out therapy when they feel "stuck" in their lives and are ready to change.  This can happen in long-term relationships where communication proves to be a barrier to emotional intimacy.  Sometimes people want to move forward in their careers or want a new direction.  Many people also seek therapy to help them understand and move on from prolonged grief.

How does therapy work?

In the context of a safe and caring environment, clients learn more about themselves and how to make changes. In a typical session, we would review topics discussed in previous sessions and thoughts, feelings, insights or obstacles to change that you may have noticed during the week. In looking at patterns in your life, we might look at the origin of the pattern and what reinforces the pattern so that you can understand what is keeping you stuck. I can also give you skills, feedback and therapeutic experiences, that could help you look at your situation from a different perspective.

How do I get started?

To get started, please call me at (206) 525-9665.  If you reach my voice mail, leave your name, phone number and the best time for me to call you back.  After we talk, if there appears to be a good fit between your needs for therapy and the services that I offer, we will set up an appointment time.  I can usually see people within a few days of our initial contact. An initial contact by phone is preferable to email because it gives both of us more opportunity to ask questions and provide information.

If I am not the therapist for you, I can provide you with referrals to other therapists in the area.
